Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
they showed quite a few of his fights on tv during the 80s, id forgot that he fought dennis andries. that was another tough fucker who seemed to get better with age

neilalex 10:19 Wed Jun 3
Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
Yes, never top, top class but as tough and as game as they make them and a proper dig on him.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
just looked it up, you was right, Leicester. I agree, he was a tough character and had a great career

Yes, Leicester I think from memory although I couldn't swear to it.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
didn't Sibson come from the midlands?

neilalex 10:10 Wed Jun 3
Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
I liked Sibson as well, really enjoyed his all action style and he was a proper hard cunt. I always remember his first fight back after being dismantled by Hagler. The Yanks fed him as a 'name' to an up and coming star Irish John Collins. Sibson fucking hammered him.

Worth watching, it isn't that long!

Neil
Yea..i agree.
That really was an unbelievable era.
My favourites were Leonard and Hearns...but Hagler and Duran were both exceptional also.
Our top boys at that time minter and Sibson were unfortunate to be around at that time..never stood a chance.
Liked Sibbo though..gave a brave effort against hagler.

Anyone remember Minter v Hagler at wembley arena?.

neilalex, very true mate. that's the great thing about youtube. so many great fights to watch from those legends

neilalex 7:41 Fri May 8
Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
I actually think, based on styles, Hearns would have been the worst of them for Mayweather, and the one I would be most certain would beat him at welter. Massive reach, lightning hands and a really heavy hitter at the weight. Hearns was a great boxer as well as a puncher and was actually beating Leonard until SRL stopped him very late.

I don't think Mayweather could conceivably get in with someone as big as Hagler.

I just put the clip up to remind myself and others how good these fighters were, and how much the stuff served up last weekend utterly pales in comparison.

They both won the fight.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
....he hit hagler with almost the exact same punch and broke his hand :.)

Takashi Miike 7:26 Fri May 8
Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
they wouldn't have lived with hearns either. it's worth watching his fight with duran just for the sound of the knockout

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
I rewatched this entire fight after watching Mayweather/Pacquiao as I didn't want to slip into old fartism when trying to assess the merits of the respective generations.

These are the last two rounds, and please bear in mind this was rounds 14 and 15.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_EbO2a9n1s

Having watched the fight I cannot believe that either Pacquiao or Mayweather would have had an earthly with either Leonard or Duran at welterweight. What strikes me most about these two rounds, other than the intensity, is the level of technical ability displayed by both. watch Leonard's speed and footwork, watch Duran's ability to make him miss and immediately counter. It's fucking sublime stuff. Duran frequently outjabs Leonard, leonard beats Duran on the inside and so it goes. Unreal.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao
went exactkly as I said it would

30 quid on FMJ on points made it less boring

still don't think Manny could have hit him often enough to make it any different 5 year back
